How do I set up my UTmail and/or UTORid?

Check out this website https://www.utorid.utoronto.ca. Here you can activate your account, change your password and verify your account.

Do I need to enrol in courses if I am a first year MT student?

No. Courses are automatically enrolled for first year students. They will appear on ACORN under timetable. They may take some time before you can see them.

When do I have to pay the fall tuition by?

The recommend date to pay fall tuition is by August 27, 2021 to ensure that the fees are processed in time, but the deadline is September 10, 2021. If you are applying for OSAP you can request a tuition deferral through ACORN. How do I pay my tuition?

Go to Acorn (see Resources tab for link). Go to the Finances tab and click Make a Payment. https://studentaccount.utoronto.ca/making-payments/You are only required to pay the minimum amount per semester which is stated in your invoice under Financial Account.

Do I have to pay tuition if I am getting OSAP?

If OSAP has confirmed that you will be receiving money, go to Acorn (see Resources tab for link), go to Finances and click Tuition Fee Deferral. Once you have received your OSAP funding, make sure to cover any remaining fees.

How do I see my schedule?

If you login to Acorn (See Resources tab for link), under Timetable & Exams you should be able to see your schedule for Fall, Winter and Summer sessions. Keep in mind that classes only appear closer to the start of the session.

When can I take additional qualifications (AQs)?

You can only take AQ's or additional qualifications once you have graduated.

I am getting OSAP and have paid the minimum payment, do I still have to defer my fees?

Yes. You want to defer your fees just in case the OSAP funding comes in late or there is a change, even if you have paid the minimum payment.

When is tuition payment due if I am receiving OSAP?

The final deadline to pay for the Fall 2021 is September 30, 2021. The deadline to pay for winter in January 31st. If you are not receiving OSAP the deadline is September 10th. Check Acorn or contact ORSS for more information.

Can I opt out of any incidental fees?

You can only opt out of health and dental fees. The opt out period for fall is September 1-30, 2021, and winter is January 3-31, 2022. To learn more about opting-on & opting-out, click here.  To opt out, click here

What happens if I don't pay my fees on time?

If you have not paid the minimum requirement, your status will change from "Invited" to "Cancelled" which means you will be removed from your courses. If you have obtained a tuition deferral or paid minimum requirement and do not pay later, then a monthly service change fee will be added to your account.

Are there classes during practicum?

No there are no classes during practicum. You may have assignments that you need to complete after practicum for other classes.

Are we in person in winter? Is there a virtual option?

If the winter session is in person, the policy and expectation is that you must attend in-person. More information about winter will come later on.

Should people be vaccinated even if you're not in-person?

Yes! A lot of boards and workplaces are requiring employees to be fully vaccinated, or to undergo rapid and frequent testing.

How can I teach in a Catholic School Board?

In order to teach in a Catholic school board you must be Catholic and you must complete the Teaching in Ontario's Catholic School course. TC's must complete this course in their first year. 

Am I able to take the MPT (math proficiency test) in Year 1?

No. You need to apply to OCT and have an OCT number. It has also been hard for Year 2 TC's to book a test, as there was limited availability last year. In addition, there is a court case for the MPT to be removed so hopefully TC's will not have to complete it. You can follow the Facebook Page to keep up with the case.
